Dear Andy,
Your site is awesome! I am enjoying watching my shitzu pup eat home made meals and find her to have no problems adapting to home made food. She is happy with her meals now and it is amazing to see her thrive.
She is now 11 weeks old and eating 3 x a day….she wants to eat @ 10 pm at night and does not have a bm after. Is this feeding at 10 pm good for her? Am I not giving her enough food earlier. How many times a day do you advise an 11 week old pup eat?
Keep up your wonderful work!
What do you think of dogs being vegetarians?
Fran
Hey fran, glad you like it… we work hard t create great content for you so thanks for sharing your appreciation.
from 6-12 weeks you should feed 4 times a day, even up to 16 weeks 4 times/day is ok
always feed at the same time and in the same place everyday and if your still potty training try to give last meal 3-4 hours before bed
dogs can be vegetarian but it requires a lot of effort and care to do it right, don’t try unless you educate yourself first and then commit to providing enough nutrients normally found in animal flesh
I mixed up a batch of your recipe – the dogs loved it an so did the cats. I know a cats diet need more greens and possibly less carbs, would you alter it for all or just the cats. It’s hard to keep them separate. Also, our boxer just got home from the hospital he has Conjestive Heart Failure and the meds are helping. Lasix, Vetmedin (big help 4 the heart), Soloxine (Hypothyroid) 2 antibiotics. is there anything I should add to his food to help him. At this point we can’t him off anything-well the antibiotics should be done in about a week. Should I add acidophollis while still on them? Sorry so many big questions!
Thank you in advance!
Thank you
sandy, please keep in mind I’m NOT a vet but I’ll give you some friendly advice which you MUST double-check with your vet please.
the anti-biotics will kill many of the friendly intestinal bacteria so the natural yoghurt is a good idea
omega-3 fatty acids are very good for heart function so I’d add flaxseed oil (or codliver oil) to meals maybe 3 times per week
cats are true carnivores but dogs are not so definitely give your cat more protein
hope this helps
THANKS ANDY FOR EVERYTHING I HAVE A 19 MONTH OLD BOSTON TERRIER WITH REALLY BAD ALLERGIES AND YOUR RECIPES SEEM TO REALLY KEEP HIS VOMITING UNDER CONTROL THANKS A MILLION…
I’ve heard lots of stories of dogs allergies disappearing after using our recipes and getting off commercial dog food, great to hear — andy
i can not afford your book at this time due to work hours being cut. so i beg a favor-more reciepies and please tell me what commercial dog food is safe enough for boomer and smokey to have mixed with the
home made meals-thank you from boom and smokey
Hi Robert,
mixing in kibble is fine but use a quality brand. Most kibble is garbage so choose carefully. If you’re not sure, in the Dog Food SECRETS Gold Pack we have the Confidential Dog Food Report which profiles the only 9 brands we recommend.
Andy
Hi Andy I’am going to try your recipe . I know i need to slowly mix up there food and gradully add more of the tuna egg & chesse to get them agusted to the straight tuna recipe. I would like to ask you if it would be allright to keep them also on the bags of dog food just a smaller amount of the baged dog food? please email me back and let me know? Also do you have any other recipe’s for something else cause i know they will get tired of just one recipe and would like change’s just like us human’s
Using the bagged food also is not ideal but I understand its also a matter of whats practical.
I’m adding more recipes
Thanks for the recipe. I’m sure my dogs would love it. I agree that most commercial dog foods are not good for dogs and in fact can be very dangerous to their health. However, it appears that you have not done enough research about what IS really healthy for dogs. Tuna can contain a high concentration of Mercury–not healthy for humans or dogs. Many dogs react poorly to wheat, (two of mine are allergic/sensitive to wheat) Cheese is highly fatty, and dairy fat is not the best form of fat for dogs. The types of fat dogs need and receive from raw meat, eggs fish and other carefuly cooked meat is more easily digested and more nutritionally beneficial.
I see you left this comment on 2 different posts of mine.
Yes, if we want to be fanatical and take it to the nth degree, which is great for your dog if you have the time, then by all means take it to the nth degree… but this recipe is meant to be easy and include ingredients owners who dont usually cook their dog’s food, already have in the pantry.
This recipe if many times healthier than regular commercial dog food
